King of the ocean

The Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus)

The largest animal in the world is the blue whale. It is a mammal. It is an animal that breathes through lunges. There are 75 species of whales in the world.

They are almost 100 feet long and weigh 150 tons.A gentle, non-aggressive creature with a fish-like body to move in water.

They are called blue whales because of their greyish-grey fur that mixes with the water and looks blue.

These animals have a unique breathing ability. They can stay underwater for a long time without breathing.

The oxygen required for breathing comes to the surface of the water and is inhaled through the nostrils on the head and drowns.
These whales have the ability to dive to a depth of 7,000 feet to search for their prey once they have acquired a oxygen.
They can travel up to 1000 to 2000 km in search of prey. They use echolocation to catch prey in the dark without light.
gestation period of 12 to 17 months. They give birth every 4 years.

They have the ability to swim fast despite their heavy weight. They have a lifespan of 70 to 90 . They communicate with each other through sound signals.

They communicate with each other through sound signals.

The female whales are attracted by the long music that the male whales make and the female whales come to find its location.

Female whales have a gestion period of 12-17 months. They give birth every 4 years.  Is the heart of a blue whale, it weighs more than 590 kg, about the size of a small car, so its heart beats 8 to 10 times per minute

A “baby blue whale” is about 25 feet long at birth, and this same “baby” blue whale drinks about 568 liters of milk a day, increasing its weight by up to 90 kilograms a year. After a year, the same baby blue whale begins to feed on krill, which consists of small crabs and fish Whales have a large amount of fat stored in their bodies.

They are hunted to extract oil from them. Since this is a rare species and their breeding season is long, it is our duty to protect them.

Trincomalee is internationally recognized as one of the best tourist destinations for whales and dolphins, the world’s largest wildlife.
